Mobile schools for pastoralists

South Sudan is home to a large population of pastoralists who migrate seasonally in search of water and pasture. Unfortunately, these communities also have the highest rates of illiteracy.

In response to this need, Education Action in Crisis (EAC) has launched the Cattlekeepers Mobile Schools project.

This innovative initiative will provide specially trained staff, a portable curriculum, first aid kits, and mobile tents to make education more accessible to these transhumant communities.

By bringing education directly to where the cattlekeepers are, EAC aims to transform the lives of these individuals and empower them with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive.

This project is a crucial step towards breaking the cycle of illiteracy and improving the lives of pastoralists in South Sudan.

Mobile Tents and Classrooms: Portable, light-weigh and easy-to-set-up tents for classrooms.

Mobile tents and classrooms provide a versatile and practical solution for outdoor education. These sturdy and easy-to-set-up tents create a comfortable and functional space for learning.

The spacious interior allows for plenty of room for students and teachers to engage in lessons and activities, while the durable construction ensures that the structure can withstand various weather conditions.

The portable nature of these tents also allows for flexibility in location, making it possible to bring education to different outdoor settings.

The design of the tents is not only practical but also visually appealing, creating an inviting and inspiring environment for students to learn.

With mobile tents and classrooms, the possibilities for outdoor education are endless, providing a unique and enriching experience for students and educators alike.

Boxed Curriculum

Plan: Create portable lesson materials like textbooks and digital content.

Explanation: The curriculum will be designed to be portable and adaptable to different environments. This includes textbooks, workbooks, and digital content stored on tablets or other devices.

The boxed curriculum will be comprehensive yet easy to transport, ensuring that students have access to consistent and high-quality educational materials.

Teacher Training

Plan:

Train teachers to adapt to nomadic life and engage students effectively.

Explanation:

Teachers will receive specialized training to handle the unique challenges of teaching in a nomadic setting.

This includes cultural sensitivity training, strategies for engaging students in varying environments, and methods for delivering effective lessons despite the frequent relocations.

The goal is to ensure teachers are well-prepared to maintain a high standard of education.

Community Involvement

Plan: Work with community leaders to ensure the program meets their needs.

Explanation: Engaging with community leaders is essential for the program's acceptance and success.

By involving them in the planning and implementation stages, EAC can tailor the education services to meet the specific needs and preferences of the nomadic cattle keepers.

This collaboration helps build trust and ensures the program is culturally relevant and beneficial.
